October’s here, and you know what that means: it’s officially time to lean all the way into spooky season. But this isn’t just “grab a bag of lollies from Woolies and call it Halloween” season—oh no, we’re going full-throttle. For the next 31 days (and probably a few bonus nights, because some nights demand double features), I’m watching horror films. Every. Single. Night.
Yes, this first post is running a little late. Those pesky site maintenance gremlins decided to throw a spanner in the works. Nothing says “terror” quite like wrestling a website back from the dead at 1am. But we’re patched up, the lights are back on, and the monsters are ready to come out and play. Consider it a warm-up scare before the real horrors begin.
Here’s how it works: you won’t get a tidy list of what I’m watching ahead of time. No spoilers, no careful schedule, no chance to prepare yourself mentally. Some nights it’ll be a single feature. Other nights, I might throw in a double feature. Why settle for one scare when you can have two? You’ll find out what’s on the menu when I post it, and not a second sooner. Half the fun of horror is not knowing what’s coming. It could be a cult classic. It might be a campy splatterfest. Or it could be something so weird and slow-burn that it’ll have you side-eyeing every shadow in the room. It’s chaos, sure—but it’s curated chaos, and it’s glorious.
And yes, double-feature nights are a special kind of madness. By the time the credits roll on the second film, you might be questioning your life choices. You may also question your sanity. And why you ever thought popcorn and gummy snakes were sufficient sustenance. You’ll laugh, you’ll cringe, and you’ll probably sleep with the lights on—or forget sleep entirely. Some nights will feel like a horror-themed endurance test, and that’s exactly the point.
Of course, this kind of marathon comes with side effects. Watching multiple horror movies some nights for a whole month may result in:
- Paranoia about every creak and groan in your house.
- A lifelong mistrust of dolls, clowns, and mirrors.
- Compulsive backseat checks, even if you live somewhere quiet.
- Questioning life choices after eating half a bag of Allen’s Snakes Alive during a triple jump-scare session.
- Popcorn burns from badly timed jump scares.
- Occasional existential dread wondering how you ended up voluntarily doing this to yourself.
For those of us who live and breathe horror, though, this is basically a walk in the park. Nights like these are perfect excuses to revisit forgotten favourites. We can hunt down hidden gems we always meant to watch. Or, we can dive headfirst into something completely unexpected. It’s nostalgia, discovery, and “how did I never see this one before?” moments rolled into one glorious screamfest.
If you’ve missed the first couple of nights, check out the posts on Instagram to catch up. And for tonight… buckle up. You’ll want to be prepared for what’s coming—trust me, it’s going to be a wild ride.
So light the jack-o’-lanterns, pour yourself a drink (spiked or not), and settle in. The marathon is officially underway. A little late, sure, but the dead aren’t exactly known for punctuality.
Welcome to the 31 Days of Halloween Horror. Let’s make this October bloody, chaotic, and utterly unmissable. 🎃
